​Balloon Safaris in Rwanda are always exciting to watch through the vast plains of the African Savannah. This is a revered wildlife encounter inside Akagera National Park. Your experience starts with the arrival at the take-off area which is located at Kayitaba, a very short drive from the South Entrance gate of Akagera National Park. At 0515 am ready to take off and receive a briefing from the balloon pilots while sipping a cup of coffee and snacks. Witness the balloon inflation before take-off which gives you the opportunity to take perfect photos.  The entire experience is worth it.

The feel of getting to a balloon basket and starting your flight. Experience all the amazing views of the park, the sunrise over Lake Ihema, spotting the wild from above including the giraffes, rhinos, buffaloes, zebras, impalas, warthogs, lions, etc.

The experience finishes with a champagne ceremony after landing as a hot air balloon tradition and receiving a flight certificate signed by our pilots as a memory of this unforgettable day. We advise guests to come with covered shoes and a coat/sweater ​due ​to chill the weather. ​​

Two hot air balloons with a capacity of 4 pax and 6 pax, are available and thus you can book your family​ ​​a ​ride. The total capacity for 2 is 10 pax. We also arrange private and exclusive VIP balloon flights for guests seeking exclusive use, this arrangement is available by speaking to our destination expert.

A single flight per day is scheduled to depart and this is performed during sunrise. Flight duration is 45 minutes and may vary depending on weather conditions. The whole balloon safari operation takes between 2-3 hours.

Guests are advised to complement their balloon safari with a gorilla trek to Volcanoes or combine it with a safari to Nyungwe forest to see the primates.  Volcanoes & Nyungwe are perfect spots to see the primates in Rwanda.
